About the photo: This shapshot was taken from the top of Stratton Mountain, VT, on a frigid morning. I don't recall the temperature but the other photos that morning show us bundled in hats, scarfs, neck gators, gloves . . . the works. The chair lift rides were miserable. A skier since the age of 3, there is little better than skiing: feeling the crisp cold air in your lungs as you look out over snow-covered mountains. Out there you know you're alive.
